Both summer and winter rolled into Kalumbila Town in July, bringing an air of unpredictability. However, the Happiest Town in Africa is anything but unpredictable!
This month, the town welcomed visitors from near and far. From international journalists to royalty, our community continues to be a testament to how Kalumbila Town has open arms to investment, collaboration and community building.
Official Opening of Wumi Mini Hospital
With the resounding approval of Senior Chief Musele and Education Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima, we opened the doors to a healthier and wholesome community.
Kalumbila Town took a major step toward better healthcare with the opening of Wumi Mini Hospital. Serving over 223,000 residents, the new facility brings essential medical services where they are needed the most. Previously, the nearest comprehensive hospital was nearly 100 km away.

Wumi offers maternity, outpatient, diagnostic, and radiology services, with future plans for minor surgery. The hospital represents a model of community-driven development, supporting Kalumbila’s transformation into a resilient, inclusive economic hub beyond mining.
Learning to Lead
People will always be at the heart of progress and the stewardship of the best talent is what builds lasting legacies for organisations, communities and of course, Kalumbila Town. We welcomed nineteen students and four lecturers from The University of Zambia -UNZA, The Copperbelt University (CBU), and Northern Technical College – Nortec.

During a visit to Trident Mine, Operations Manager, Ritesh Mishra, noted that such initiatives are not only considered good practice, but are also a strategic imperative at FQM:
“By offering students direct access to our operations, we’re investing in the next generation of engineers, technicians, and innovators who will help shape the future of responsible mining.”
Hosting this delegation highlights the town’s commitment to continuity in bringing in the best ideas and people for growth. Exciting new talents will be the custodians of the future of Kalumbila Town. It was an opportunity to showcase the collaboration, shared vision and efforts that make the town a thriving community.
July in Kalumbila Town underpinned the rising appeal of the town as a destination for investment, work and living. It also showcases a vision to build a community and town that outlives mining activities to become a hub for tomorrow’s possibilities.
